Short Stories in English ❤
Destiny by: Author Unknown,
During a momentous battle, a Japanese general decided to attack even though his army was greatly outnumbered. He was confident they would win, but his men were filled with doubt.
On the way to the battle, they stopped at a religious shrine. After praying with the men, the general took out a coin and said, "I shall now toss this coin. If it is heads, we shall win. If it is tails we shall lose."
"Destiny will now reveal itself."
He threw the coin into the air and all watched intently as it landed. It was heads. The soldiers were so overjoyed and filled with confidence that they vigorously attacked the enemy and were victorious.
After the battle a lieutenant remarked to the general, "No one can change destiny."
"Quite right," the general replied as he showed the lieutenant the coin, which had heads on both sides.

Mountain Story Story of the year
"A son and his father were walking on the mountains.
Suddenly, his son falls, hurts himself and screams: "AAAhhhhhhhhhhh!!!"
To his surprise, he hears the voice repeating, somewhere in the mountain: "AAAhhhhhhhhhhh!!!" Curious, he yells: "Who are you?"
He receives the answer: "Who are you?" And then he screams to the mountain: "I admire you!" The voice answers: "I admire you!"
Angered at the response, he screams: "Coward!" He receives the answer: "Coward!"
He looks to his father and asks: "What's going on?" The father smiles and says: "My son, pay attention." Again the man screams: "You are a champion!"
The voice answers: "You are a champion!" The boy is surprised, but does not understand. Then the father explains: "People call this ECHO, but really this is LIFE. It gives you back everything you say or do.
Our life is simply a reflection of our actions. If you want more love in the world, create more love in your heart. If you want more competence in your team, improve your competence.
This relationship applies to everything, in all aspects of life;
Life will give you back everything you have given to it."
YOUR LIFE IS NOT A COINCIDENCE. IT'S A REFLECTION OF YOU!"
-- Unknown Author

:the first story
"A tale of horribly good Bertha"
Once upon a time, a long time ago
There was a little girl called Bertha
She was always well behaved and worked hard at school to please her parents and her teachers.
She was never late, never dirty, never rude and she never told lies.
But she wasn't pretty at all, she was just horribly good.
Bertha was so good that she won three medals:
One said: never late, one said: always polite and the third one said: Best Child In The World.
Bertha was so good that the King invited her to his palace.
So she put on her best clean white dress, and she pinned her three medals on her front and she walked through the woods, to the king's palace.
But in the woods, there lived a big hungry wolf.
He saw Berthas lovely white dress through the trees and she heard the medals clinking as she walked…
"Aha!" Thought the wolf "launch" and he started to move quickly but quietly through the trees toward Bertha.
Bertha tried to run away but she couldn't run fast because the medals were so heavy.
The wolf caught her easily and he ate everything, every bit of Bertha, except her three medals.
now, who can tell us what was this nice short storie's message? what is it going to mention? does it mean the following
"we just last a good name in this world"
who thinks so? and who doesn't? ... I, myself can not say I belong to which group, but I do not know why the medals - the good properties of Bertha - caused her to death ...

How can you "SM_LE" Without "I"?
How can you be "F_NE" without "I"?
How can you "W_SH" Without "I"?
How can you be "FR_END" without"I"?
"I" am very important!
But this 'I' can never achieve S_CCESS without 'U' and that makes 'you' more important than 'I'.

A Glass of Milk ---
A glass of milk One day, a poor boy who was selling goods door to door to pay his way through school, found he had only one thin dim left, and he was hungry. He decided he would ask for a meal at the next house. However, he lost his nerve when a lovely young woman opened the door. Instead of a meal, he asked for a drink of water. She thought he looked hungry, so brought him a large glass of milk. He drank it slowly and then asked: how much do I owe you? You don't owe me anything," she retorted. "Mother has thought us never to accept pay for a kindness." He said… "Then I thank you from my heart." As Howard Kelly left that house, he not only felt stronger physically, but his faith in God and man was strong also. He had been ready to give up and quit. Years later that young woman became critically ill. The local doctors were baffled. They finally sent her to the big city, where they called in specialists to study her rare disease. Dr. Howard Kelly was called in for the consultation. When he heard the name of the town she came from, a strange light filled his eyes. Immediately he rose and went down the hall of the hospital to her room. Dressed in his doctor's gown he went in to see her. He recognized her at once. He went back to the consultation room determined to do his best to save her life. From that day he gave special attention to the case. After a long struggle, the battle was won. Dr. Kelly requested the business office to pass the final bill to him for approval. He looked at it, and then wrote something on the edge and the bill was sent to her room. She feared to open it, for she was sure it would take the rest of her life to pay for it all. Finally she looked, and something caught her attention on the side of the bill. She read these words….. "Paid full full with one glass of milk" (Signed) Dr. Howard Kelly Tears of joy flooded her eyes as her happy heart prayed: "Thank you, God that your love has spread abroad through human hearts and hands."

Comprehension
The Power of Love
A college professor had his sociology class into the Baltimore slums to get case histories of 200 young boys. They were asked to write an evaluation of each boy's future. In every case the students wrote: 'he hasn't got a chance.' Twenty-five years late another sociologist professor came across the earlier study. He had his student follow up on the project to see what had happened to these boys. With the exception of 20 boys who had moved away or died, the students learnt that 176 of the remaining 180 had achieved more than ordinary success as lawyers, doctors and businessmen.
The professor was astounded and decided to pursue the matter further. Fortunately, all the men were in the area and he was able to ask each one, "How do you account for your success?" in each case the reply came with feeling, "there was a teacher."
The teacher was still alive, so he sought her out and asked the old but still alert lady what magic formula she had used to put these boys out of the slums into successful achievements.
The teacher's eyes sparkled and her lips broke int a gentle smile. "It's really very simple," she said. "I love these boys."

Short Stories In English - Improve your English through Reading Skills
Short Stories In English - Improve your English through Reading Skills A brother like that
A friend of mine named Paul received an automobile from his brother as a Christmas present. On Christmas Eve when Paul came out of his office, a street urchin was walking around the shiny new car, admiring it. "Is this your car Mister?" he asked. Paul nodded. "My brother gave it to me for Christmas." The boy was astounded. "You mean your brother gave it to you and it didn't cost you anything? Boy, I wish . . ." he hesitated.
Of course Paul knew that he was going to wish for. He was going to wish he had a brother like that. But what he lad said jarred Paul all the way down to his heels.
"I wish," the boy went on, "that I could be a brother like that."
Paul looked at the boy in astonishment, and then impulsively he added, "would you like to take a ride in my automobile?"
"OH, yes! I'd live that!"
After a short ride, the boy turned and with his eyes aglow, said, "Mister, would you mind driving in front of my house?"
Paul smiled a little. He thought he knew what the lad wanted. He wanted to show his neighbors that he could ride home in a big automobile. But Paul was wrong again. "Will you stop where those two steps are?" the boy asked.
He ran up the steps. Then in a little while Paul heard him coming back, but he was not coming fast. He was carrying his little crippled brother. He sat him down on the bottom steps, then sort of squeezed up against him and pointed to the car.
"There she is, Buddy, just like I told you upstairs. His brother gave it to him for Christmas and it didn't cost him a cent. And someday I am gonna give you one just like that . . . then you can see for yourself all the pretty things in the Christmas windows that I've been trying to tell you about."
Paul got out and lifted the lad to the front seat of his car. The shining-eyed older brother climbed in beside him and three of them began a memorable holiday ride.
That Christmas Eve, Paul learnt what Jesus meant when he had said: "It is more blessed to give . . ."

True love
Mosses Mendelssohn, the grandfather of the well-known German composer, was far from being handsome. Along with a rather stature, he had a grotesque hunchback.
One day he visited a merchant in Hamburg who had a lovely daughter named Frumtje. Mosses felt hopelessly in love with her. But Frumtje was repulsed by his misshapen appearance.
When it came time for him to leave, mosses gathered his courage and climbed the stairs to her room to take one last opportunity to speak with her. She was a vision of heavenly beauty, but caused him deep sadness by her refusal to look at him. After several attempts at conversation, mosses shyly asked, "do you believe marriages are made in heaven?" "Yes," she answered, still looking at the floor. "And do you?"
"Yes I do," he replied. "You see, in heaven at the birth of each boy, the lord announces which girl he will marry. When I was born, my future bride was pointed out to me. Then the Lord added, 'But your wife will be humpbacked.'
"Right then and there I called out, 'Oh Lord, a humpbacked woman will be a tragedy. Please Lord, give me the hump and let her be beautiful.' "
Then Furmtje looked up into his eyes and was stirred by some deep memory. She reached out and gave Mendelssohn her hand and became his devoted wife.

There is greatness All around you! Find It!
There is greatness all around you – use it!
There are many people who could be Olympic champions, All-Americans who have never tried. I'd estimate 5million people could have beaten me in the pole vault the years I won it, at least 5 million. Men who were stronger, bigger and faster than I was cold have done it, but they never picked up the pole, never made the feeble effort to pick their legs off the ground to try to get over the bar.
Greatness is all around us. It's easy to be great because great people will help you. What is fantastic about all the convention I go to is that the greatness in the business will come and share their ideas, their methods and their techniques with everyone else. I have seen the greatest salesman open up and show young salesmen exactly how they did it. They don't hold back. I have also found it true in the world f sports.
I'll never forget the time I was trying to break Dutch Warmer Dam's record. I was about a foot below his record, so I called him on the phone. I said, "Dutch can you help me? I seem to have leaved off. I can't get any higher."
He said, "sure, Bob, come on up to visit me and I'll give you all I got." I spend three days with the master, the greatest pole vaulter in the world. For three days, Dutch gave me everything that he'd seen. There were things that I was doing wrong and he corrected them. To make a long story short, I went up eight inches. That great guy gave me the best that he had. I've found that sport champions and heroes willingly do this just to help you become great, too.
John Wooden, the great UCLA basketball coach, has a philosophy that every day he is supposed to help someone who can never reciprocate. That's his obligation.
When in college working on his masters thesis on scouting and defensive football, George Allen wrote up a 30-page survey and sent it out to the great coaches in the country. 85% answered it completely.
Great people will share, which is what made George Allen one of the greatest football coaches in the world. Great people will tell you their secrets. Look for them, call them on the phone or buy their books. Go where they are, get around them, talk to them. It is easy to be great when you get around great people.
